Build Your Own Roadbook Controller

This site is part of a community driven project to help more riders get into the world of roadbook rally without breaking the bank.
If you’ve ever wanted to try navigating by paper roll like the pros but didn’t want to drop hundreds of euros on gear, this project is for you.

Adv Style

👉 Get Started

AdvRallyBT is a DIY Bluetooth handlebar controller designed to work with popular digital roadbook apps.
It’s built from simple, reliable parts and meant to be assembled and used by real riders like you and me.
No flashy branding, no profit, just a tool to help more people enjoy rally the way it was meant to be.

What You’ll Need

  • 🧰 Good DIY hands (or a helpful friend)

  • 🏍️ Choose the model that fits your bike

  • 🧾 Order the parts from the matching list

  • 🖨️ 3D print the parts (PETG recommended)

  • 📬 Send me your address for a quote,
I’ll ship the programmed “brain” to you

  • 📱  Apple OS / Android 13 or higher is required

Easy, tested, and already helping riders hit the trails.

The unit's "Brain"

As a maker, I designed and programmed this controller together with a group of local riders - for riders, and not for profit.

We now have around 35 units of the latest version out in the wild, helping navigators ride smarter. Feedback has been great.
(Some of the original, bulky prototypes from six years ago are still going strong!)

I'm not publishing the code, as there was a past attempt to use it commercially. After countless sleepless nights working on it, I decided to keep it closed.

This site was originally just a shopping list for fellow riders interested in rally navigation. Local riders can bring the parts, and I’ll happily build and program the controller for them.

If you’re not planning a visit to Israel, I can ship a pre-programmed M5Stamp Pico Mate.

The Pico costs around 7.5 Euro on AliExpress (including ~3 Euro shipping to Israel)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003449579749.html

Shipping from Israel to Europe is about (replay with address for more accurate cost):
   *   7.5 Euro without tracking
   *   12 Euro with a tracking number

I'm always happy to help — no profit, no catch. Just a shared love of riding and DIY spirit.

How it works?

Roadbook

The controller connects via Bluetooth to your phone or tablet as a keyboard sending keys depending on the mode.

To change mode press 3 buttons together
Led will blink once for mode one and two for mode two

Mode 1 for use as media controller with Roadbook:
Sends volume up, volume down, play/pause, next track, previous track
Piste Roadbook - Android
Rally Roadbook Reader – iPhone & Android

Mode 2 for use with OsmAnd or direct control of the phone/tablet
Sends: left, right, enter, up, down

If you have issues with Bluetooth connection
use pin 15 (built-in button on the M5 Pico) with ground for 3 seconds
will result in resetting all bonded devices
